Overview

Interested in a career in the uniformed services but unsure which path is right for you? This course is designed to support you in making an informed decision about your future. If you are passionate about working with people and making a positive difference in society, this programme is an excellent starting point.

This Level 3 Extended Diploma prepares you for careers in the police, fire and rescue service, UK Border Force, prison service, and armed forces. It also provides a strong foundation for civilian roles within the uniformed services, the security sector, the civil service, or voluntary organisations.

Throughout the 2-year course, you will explore a wide range of topics through both practical and theoretical learning. This balanced approach will help you develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to progress either to university or directly into employment within the services.

What you will study

This course offers you:

  • An understanding of entry requirements for the Uniformed Services

  • A variety of land-based and water-based activities incorporating one day and multi day expeditions
  • An introduction to crime scene investigation

  • Opportunities to interact with various uniformed services including Police, Fire, Tri-service, British Transport Police, Prison, Border Force and the Ministry of Justice
Assessment

You will be assessed through a variety of methods, including practical activities, written assignments, and presentations, ensuring you can demonstrate your skills in different ways.

Entry Requirements

You will need five GCSEs at grade 4 or above (including English Language and Maths), plus two additional GCSEs at grade 3 or above.

Additional Costs

You will be expected to attend College prepared to take notes during taught sessions. A fee of approximately £300 (£150 per year) is charged, which covers the cost of embedding practical activities through the year. This includes; a residential trip (NCS), outdoor adventurous activities, guest speakers and practical sessions, which enhance your learning linked to taught units. Financial help may be available for students/families who meet relevant criteria.

Progression and careers

Successful completion of this two-year programme can lead to university study in subjects such as criminology or emergency planning, or direct entry into a range of uniformed services careers.
