Barbering is the fastest growing sector within the hairdressing industry, with the growth of male grooming; it is an ideal time to gain skills in this area. This is a part time course for adults.

Overview
On this course you will gain further knowledge and creative skills to enhance your confidence and the existing skills acquired at Level 2.  As part of this course, you will learn shaving techniques, facial hair treatments with massage and hot towel services.
In order gain the most from your course we strongly encourage you to provide models/clients for the practical sessions for you to practise and showcase your skills on.
Modules and Assessments
The VRQ3 Award in Barbering will cover:
  • Health and Safety
  • Consultation
  • Creative cutting of men’s hair
  • Facial hair
  • Provide shaving services
  • Product and aftercare
  • “Create an Image” portfolio

Teaching and learning methods

Although block heads are used for practice, to get the maximum experience from the course you will be required to work on clients, we invite you to provide your own models for such occasions.

Modules and assessment

Cutting skills are amongst the most important you will need as a barber. Within this course you will cover different aspects of cutting men’s hair, neckline shapes, beards, moustaches, facial shaving and massage with aftercare advice. All clipper work in Level3 is freehand so this will enhance your skills and creativity added with hot towel shaving for you to increase your skills set.

Entry Requirements

This course is suitable for anyone who has a Level 2 or equivalent and wishes to learn wet shaving skills.

Facilities

The Laurence Building boasts exceptional, industry standard salons with professional equipment, alongside a newly designed showcase ‘Zeal Hair Salon’ with barbering facilities. All student our busy commercial environment and gain assessments on real clients.

Additional Costs
Barbering kit (approx £300), salon/practical sessions uniform: black shirt/polo top with closed toe shoes – full details wil be given at interview and upon enrolment.
