The Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting provides the real-world skills needed by employers and maximises opportunities for employment within a wider accountancy context.

This qualification will enable you to become confident with a wide range of financial and management accounting skills and applications, and gain competencies in drafting financial statements, reviewing and reporting audit findings, and constructing and presenting complex management accounting reports. You will also gain a sound understanding of the UK tax regime and will be able to carry out key tax calculations for both individual UK taxpayers and for companies. Finally, you will be equipped with practical business skills through study of strategy and decision making, personal effectiveness, professional ethics, and sustainable business practices.

Alongside these core skills, six green threads run through the suite of accounting qualifications, ensuring you develop the broader skills and awareness needed to thrive in a fast-changing world. These future-focused themes go beyond technical knowledge, embedding practical mindsets that prepare you to: communicate with clarity and confidence; champion sustainability in business; harness digital innovation for smarter decisions; foster equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging and navigate complex legal and regulatory landscapes with integrity.

The primary and most important outcome of the Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians is that it can lead to a wide variety of highly skilled accountancy and finance jobs, some of which include:

Furthermore, your Level 4 qualification will provide you with exemptions from a number of professional exams, should you choose to study a Level 7 professional accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA.

Teaching and learning methods:

Face to face delivery by highly qualified industry accountants in classrooms equipped with computers, thus enhancing learning experiences, improving engagement, and providing you with a personalised educational experience.

This course is open to adults who are over 19 years old.

You will need a Merit or Distinction at AAT Level 3, GCSE Maths and English grades of 4 or above (C or above) and a very good attendance record to show you have the skills and motivation required to succeed at this level.

Please be aware that Exeter College does not hold a CAS licence, and therefore is unable to consider applications from prospective learners who require a Student Visa. Non-UK nationals can be considered for courses as long as they already hold the Right to Study in the UK for purposes other than education.

You will study at our Future Skills Centre, which opened in 2021 near Exeter Airport. The centre has free on site parking as well as an on site cafe and a designated study room for adult learners.

Funding Availability 

Self-Financing: No funding available for this course. For fee’s over £150, you can set up an instalment plan to pay over 3 months (50% on the first month, and 25% for the following 2 months)
