Introduction to the Hospitality Industry

This hands on, practical, 1 year City & Guilds qualification is perfect for anyone who is interested in a career in the hospitality sector. It will allow learners to develop knowledge and skills towards independent living and learning or further study. It is extremely supported and especially suitable for those students with an EHCP. It is delivered from our Centre for Progression at Tiverton.

Overview

This course is perfect for anyone who wishes to start a career in the hospitality industry and allows learners to develop knowledge and skills towards independent living and learning as well as supporting students to develop practical basic catering and food safety skills required for employment. It will be studied alongside Maths and English.

Areas of study will include:

  • Basic food preparation
  • Basic cooking
  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Safe cleaning and storage
  • Food hygiene

You will:

  • Take part in regular tutorials
  • Study GCSE English and Maths alongside your Hospitality qualification
  • Learn in a brand new, fully equipped kitchen
  • Engage in a ‘farm to fork’ experience with some produce being grown on site

What experiences will I get?

College offers you lots of new and exciting experiences both in the classroom and when you are out and about undertaking set tasks. You will develop the necessary skills to become more independent in the classroom as well as developing the skills you need for progression.

Assessment

There are internally set and assessed assignments which are externally moderated.

Next steps:

You could potentially go onto the Level 1 Hospitality course at our Exeter Campus or a Supported Internship within the Hospitality Industry at Tiverton or Exeter.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements to join this course, just a passion for cooking and good customer service skills.

Facilities

This is delivered from our New Centre for Progression at Tiverton. You will have access to a teaching kitchen, an outdoor space, including mini gym and quieter, chill out spaces for when you need to reset.
