Overview

The Onsite Construction Apprenticeship provides a foundation in the practical skills, knowledge and behaviours required for a career in the construction industry. Onsite construction work includes trades such as bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, and plastering, and can be found across both new-build and refurbishment projects. Apprentices may work on projects ranging from domestic repairs and maintenance to large-scale housing, commercial and retail developments.

Working alongside customers, skilled tradespeople and site management teams, apprentices learn the essential techniques needed to progress within the construction sector.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the course lead to an apprenticeship or employment?

Yes. One of the main aims of the full-time programme is to prepare students for employment and apprenticeships within the construction industry. Students develop practical skills and industry knowledge while also learning about the standards employers expect, including attendance, punctuality, communication, teamwork and professional behaviour.

How will attendance, behaviour and progress be monitored?

Attendance, punctuality, behaviour and academic progress are monitored throughout the year. Tutors regularly review students’ practical and theoretical work and identify where additional improvement is needed. Where there are concerns, we work with the student and, where appropriate, communicate with parents/carers so that issues can be addressed early.

What support is available if I am struggling?

Students have access to support with their coursework, practical skills, English and maths, wellbeing and wider personal development. Their tutor is an important point of contact and will help identify any additional support that may be required. Our aim is to help students become increasingly independent while ensuring support is available when they need it.
