Overview
This course is ideal if you are interested in understanding data and using it to solve real-world problems. You will develop the technical and analytical skills needed to collect, process and interpret data, alongside the professional behaviours expected in the fast-growing digital and data sectors. You will work with one of our Industry Placement Liaison Officers to find an extended industry placement that is right for you and your interests, helping you gain valuable experience in a real business environment.

- What you will study

On this course you will:
- Develop practical skills in collecting, manipulating and analysing data using industry-standard tools and technologies, including spreadsheets, databases and data visualisation software
- Explore how organisations use data to support decision-making, improve services and solve business challenges across sectors such as healthcare, finance, retail and technology
- Learn how to create dashboards, reports and visualisations to communicate insights clearly to different audiences
- Study database design and data structures, understanding how large datasets are stored, organised and managed securely
- Examine the importance of cyber security, data protection, legislation and ethical considerations when working with digital information and data systems
- Develop an understanding of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, automation and cloud computing, and how these technologies are shaping the future of business and society
- Work on realistic employer-set projects and scenarios that reflect the challenges faced by modern organisations using data-driven technologies
- Complete a substantial industry placement, typically one day per week, where you will apply your skills in a professional environment and gain valuable industry experience
- Previous students have also benefited from employer talks, industry visits and enrichment opportunities linked to the wider digital and technology sector
- Assessment

You will be assessed through an external employer-set project and core examinations during Year 1. In Year 2 you will complete a substantial external occupational specialism assessment focused on practical data analytics tasks and problem-solving. Your qualification is also dependent on the successful completion of the industry placement hours.
- Entry requirements

You will need six GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language and Maths. Learners progressing from a Level 2 course will need a Level 2 Diploma or T Level Foundation course with a good Merit profile, along with English Language and Maths GCSE at grade 4 or above.
Learners are expected to have an interest in technology, data and problem-solving, with a career aim in a digital or computing-related field
Progression and careers
This T Level will equip you for progression on to our Higher Technical Education offering, including the Higher National Diploma in Computing with specialist pathways in software, networking and cyber security. It could also lead to higher or degree apprenticeships in areas such as data analysis, data technician, business intelligence, software development or artificial intelligence. You could also progress to university to study subjects such as data science, computing, cyber security, business analytics or artificial intelligence. Employment opportunities linked to this T Level could include roles such as data analyst, junior data engineer, business intelligence analyst, digital insights analyst or data technician.
