You will study a range of knowledge and advanced practical skills in our excellent salons, this will broaden your employment opportunities in the hairdressing industry. You will be assessed practically, theoretically and orally in all areas. Complete portfolios are verified and should include assessment book, assignments and online exams. Practical skills are developed further on paying clients who are used for assessment. This advanced programme is designed to stretch and inspire hairdressing to increase your skills and offers you the opportunity to develop a portfolio of high fashion work.
Teaching and learning methods
You will learn through working as a team and working individually, and you will study units such as creative styling, cutting and colouring skills. Assessment takes place in several ways: you will be assessed whilst at college by your tutor, 60% of the work you will carry out will be practically assessed whilst 40% will be assessed by assignments and online exams. You will be expected to ensure that you have a range of clients or models for all practical classes on which to develop your skills and carry out assessments. Online examinations will contribute to your course work.
Modules and assessment
You will study a range of advanced techniques. Some of the units included in this course are as follows:
- Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon
- Consultation support for colleagues on hair services
- Creative styling and dressing (style and dress hair using a variety of techniques)
- Creative cutting techniques (cut women’s hair to create a variety of looks)
- Colour hair to create a variety of looks
- Colour Correction
Career options and progression
Opportunities to work as an advanced stylist in the hairdressing industry. Specialist manufacturer’s courses will further your career. It could also lead to other sectors of the industry such as theatre, television and film.
- Entry Requirements

You will need a Level 2 hairdressing qualification and a real interest in the industry. A written application as well as an interview is required to gain a place on this course. You will need to secure yourself a work placement within a salon, this will develop further your skills further and enrich your experience working on a full range of clients.

Our well-equipped hairdressing salons offer a fantastic learning environment. The learning resource centre provides all students with access to the internet as well as specialist information.

You will need a personal kit and uniform. Full details will be provided at enrolment.
Be advised the £150 resource fee is to be paid as a separate transaction to the faculty. Full details of how to pay will be provided on the first day of lessons.
