Overview

If you intend to pursue a career in engineering, this course provides the theory and practical skills you will need at the start of your journey.

Who is this course for?

Choose this course if you have a passion for engineering but are undecided on your career pathway.

What you will study

On this course you will:

  • Study mechanical and electronic engineering
  • Learn how to work safely and how to use and interpret engineering information, for example using technical data and applying it to a task
  • Develop your Maths, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and design skills, reinforced through practical application
  • Carry out controlled practical work in our fully equipped workshops and laboratories
  • Attend masterclasses from industry experts and visit manufacturing sites
Assessment

Assignments, external examinations, observation and written work.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English Language, Maths and Science. If you do not achieve a grade 4 in GCSE English Language or Maths you may still be considered for this course, but you will be required to study this subject alongside your course.

Progression and careers

You could progress to the BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Engineering, an apprenticeship, a T Level or employment in a related subject.
