Overview

The Foundation Certificate in Digital Systems and Data is designed to prepare you for progression to Level 3 study or employment within the digital sector. You will develop practical and technical skills across a range of digital disciplines, building confidence in using technology, solving problems and working collaboratively. The course combines theory with practical activities in specialist computer labs and industry-focused environments.

What you will study

On this course you will:

  • Learn about digital systems, including hardware, software, networking and how digital technologies are used within organisations
  • Develop practical skills in areas such as cyber security, data analysis, coding and digital problem-solving
  • Build knowledge of data handling, digital communication and emerging technologies
  • Develop employability, teamwork and communication skills through project-based learning and practical activities
  • Prepare for progression to Level 3 study, apprenticeships or employment within the digital and technology sector
  • Have opportunities to engage with industry-related activities, guest speakers and educational visits
  • Develop your wider skills through enrichment opportunities such as coding clubs, esports and digital competitions
  • Continue to study GCSE English and Maths if you do not yet have a grade 4 or above
Assessment

Your work will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence gathered from workbooks, assignments and exams.

Entry requirements

You will need at least four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English Language and Maths.

In addition, learners are expected to have a positive interest in digital technology and computing-related subjects

Internal applicants will also need a reference from their former tutor.

Progression and careers

This course can lead to progression onto Level 3 programmes such as T Levels, V Levels or apprenticeships within areas such as cyber security, software development, networking, data analytics and digital support.
