The Deepened Encounter: An Introduction to Psychodynamic Practice
A 12-Day Advanced CPD Course for Qualified Therapists

Sometimes ‘being with’ your clients isn’t enough to break through long-standing patterns and we need to get curious about a client’s past.

This 12-day course is designed for relational practitioners who want to add a psychodynamic ear to their clinical toolkit. Move beyond the conscious narrative and learn to navigate the powerful undercurrents of the unconscious, the transference, and the internal world.

Why join this course?

  • The Relational Bridge: Translate your humanistic ‘I-Thou’ presence into a tool for understanding unconscious communication.
  • Modern & Accessible: While respecting the originators of the theory, we consider contemporary masters, focusing on what works in the room today.
  • Use Theory in Practice: Gain confidence in working with ‘stuck’ dynamics and intense emotional projections.
  • Evidence-Based: Learn how psychodynamic therapy can contribute to lasting internal change.

Step out of the ‘here and now’ and into the ‘why and how’. Gain the depth, theory, and clinical courage to meet your clients in the deepest parts of their experience.

Experiential Learning & Teaching
Our approach is rooted in experiential learning, supporting you to translate theory directly into your clinical work. Including:

  • Advanced taught input grounded in psychodynamic theory
  • Experiential exercises focused on clinical application
  • Facilitated group discussion and peer reflection
  • Reflective tasks linked to your current practice

Delivery:
Led by an experienced psychodynamic counselling practitioner.
Learning is designed to be immediately transferable to practice, enabling you to work more confidently with ‘stuck’ processes, recurring relational patterns, and the deeper dynamics of client experience.

Location:
Please note that this course will take place at Exeter Community Centre.
