Overview
Learn how to lay bricks, blocks and other types of building components in mortar, working on either large commercial developments or smaller building projects, through to restoration or bespoke work, within the booming construction industry.

You will:
- Gain a range of practical skills and knowledge, such as cavity walling, building basic masonry structures and masonry cladding
- Access our fantastic facilities in a purpose-built construction centre
- Benefit from our extensive links with both large construction companies and smaller traders
- Develop an in-depth understanding of health and safety, construction technology and building methods
Topics include:
- Basic principles in construction
- Health and Safety for bricklaying
- Communication and customer service
- Principles of setting out
- Principles of building masonry structures
- Repair and maintenance of masonry structures
- Decorative brickwork
Apprentices will work in a practical and outdoor environment and are required to show initiative to independently complete work and solve problems by seeking out critical information.

- Assessment

Apprentices will need to be working towards and achieve the following job role requirements before their End Point Assessment (EPA):
- Regular laying of bricks and blocks on site
- Construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches and other structures
- The range of sites and projects that bricklayers will work on include large commercial developments, new builds in housing, alterations, extensions and restorations
You will achieve:
- IFA Level 2 Bricklaying Apprenticeship
- End Point Assessment (EPA)
- If required: Functional Skills (English, Maths)
- Entry Requirements

Every employer is different and therefore the entry requirements can vary. As a guide, you ideally need GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths.
However, we will work with you and provide additional support to help you achieve their requirements, either prior to your Apprenticeship or during the delivery of your programme. An interest in the industry is essential.
If you are 19 or over, functional skills are not required unless requested by the apprentice’s employer.
Progression and careers
You can progress to the Level 3 Craft Bricklayer Apprenticeship. You may go on to work for a contractor or as a self employed bricklayer.
