Overview

Book early to secure your spot!

Learn to ask for and provide basic information, and hold conversations in various settings while visiting French-speaking countries. Through tutor presentations, role plays, and plenty of practice, you’ll focus on speaking and improving your conversational skills. Work on your own, in pairs, or in small groups, and progress at your own pace. Additional homework activities are available if you want to practice more. Join us to build your confidence in speaking French and enhance your communication skills.

What topics will I study?

Part 1 – Autumn Term
Ideal for complete beginners

  • Identifying yourself and others
  • Asking and answering questions about where you live, your family and nationality
  • Understanding a café menu and ordering drinks and snacks
  • Booking accommodation in a hotel and asking about facilities
  • Ordering food in a restaurant
  • Verbs in the present tense
  • Numbers in French
  • The French alphabet

Part 2 – Spring Term
For those who have already learnt the contents of Part 1

  • Finding your way around a French town
  • Describing your family
  • Booking self-catering holiday accommodation & leaving a phone message
  • Describing weather and seasons
  • Talking about leisure activities and how often they are practised
  • Shopping for food in a market
  • Buying tickets and travelling by train
  • Describing and buying clothes and shoes

Part 3 – Summer Term
For those who have already learnt the contents of Part 2

  • Making enquiries at a lost property office
  • Talking about your daily routine
  • Describing your physical appearance
  • Transport – talking about how you travel to different locations & length of journey
  • How to refer to events in the immediate future
  • Moving house and saying what you have just done
  • Discussing holiday plans and making enquires at a tourist office
  • Making yourself understood in a pharmacy and/or a doctor’s surgery
Entry Requirements
  • Part 1 – Autumn Term: No prior knowledge is required – this course is perfect for complete beginners.
  • Part 2 – Spring Term: For those who have already learnt the contents of Part 1 (details to follow soon)
  • Part 3 – Summer Term: For those who have already learnt the contents of Part 2 (details to follow soon)
