Network Engineer – Higher Apprenticeship

Network engineers work across organisations of all sizes to install, maintain, and troubleshoot physical, virtual, and cloud-based networks. They ensure systems run securely and efficiently, resolving issues quickly to minimise downtime. Their role may be independent or team-based depending on the organisation, and they support both technical and non-technical users. They also interpret technical information, meet organisational requirements, and interact with a wide range of stakeholders in their daily work.

Overview

This course is aimed at IT Professionals who are looking to upskill or specialise in Network Engineering. You will be taught across a range of units by teachers with backgrounds and experience in industry. As part of this course, you will learn about setting up, configuring and maintaining IT networks safely, securely and efficiently.

  • CISCO Networking & Configuration
  • VLANs & Network Addressing
  • Routing & Network Security
  • Virtualisation & Cloud Networks
  • Network Troubleshooting, Scripting & Performance
  • Business Continuity, Disaster Recover, Compliance & Customer Service

You will achieve:

Level 4 Network Engineer apprenticeship certificate.

Apprentices will need to be working towards and achieve the following job role requirements before their End Point Assessment (EPA):

  • Development and reinforcement of skills, behaviours and knowledge
  • Regular Progress Reviews with Apprentice, College & Employer
  • Regular assessment via presentations, development of portfolio or observations
  • Demonstrating skills, knowledge and behaviours
  • 1 day per week in college for year 1 (term time) and 4 days per week in the workplace

Entry Requirements

A-Level/BTEC/T-Level/Apprenticeship in an IT related subject or at least 1 year experience as a 1st or2nd line IT Support Technician.

Apprentices have access to all facilities across College. These include the College Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) and the College Gym.
