DIY for Beginners
This is a hands on practical course for beginners or those with some experience.
If you withdraw from the course before the start date you will be entitled to a refund of tuition fees, providing you have informed the college at least two weeks before the course start date.

This course is designed for adults who are looking for an introduction to the basics of DIY from laying wall and floor tiles, repairing plastered walls, laying bricks and blocks, cutting and forming timber joints, undertaking simple plumbing tasks as well as developing knowledge skills and confidence using a variety of hand tools, materials and equipment.
Students will have informal assessment and feedback from the tutor and this will be recorded on an individual learning plan. Students will not have access to machinery during classes.

What topics will I study?
You will cover the following (Similar format all three terms, format is flexible and may vary):
- Health and safety and basic tools
- Basic wood joints; advanced hand tools
- Brick wall construction
- Introduction to power tools
- Sanders and planers
- Basic decorating skills
- Basic plastering skills
- Introduction to tiling and grouting, basic plumbing, taps, radiator bleeding, joints, leak detection, stop valves and ball cocks.
Next steps: There are other construction courses available such as Carpentry and Bricklaying.
- Entry Requirements

None, all welcome. All students on construction courses are required to have their own steel-toed shoes. Overalls or a change of clothing must be brought to each lesson.
