Overview
This occupational entry qualification provides the knowledge and skills to pursue a career in fitness coaching including how to plan, deliver and supervise safe and effective exercise programmes as well as conducting small group sessions. It covers an understanding of anatomy, physiology and nutrition and how they relate to exercise and fitness. The qualification also provides an understanding of professionalism, personal development and how to deliver exceptional customer service.

You will need four GCSEs at grade 4 or above including either GCSE Maths or GCSE English. If you don’t have a grade 4 in English or Maths, you will be required to study for this alongside your course.
You will need the personal qualities for working in the health and fitness industry and enthusiasm for sport.
Progression and Careers
You will be able to progress to a more advanced course, such as the Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry in Personal Training or to an Apprenticeship in the fitness industry. Future job roles might include working in the fitness industry as a fitness instructor and leading group exercise sessions such as kettlebells, studio cycling and circuits
Frequently Asked Questions
- How practical is the course?

It is roughly 40% practical and 60% theory. You will complete one lesson per week for each of the certificates in Kettlebells, Circuits and Studio Cycling. There are additional practical lessons in fitness training and fitness planning and delivering and client consultations. The rest of the course will be theory based covering anatomy and physiology, health and safety, nutrition and customer care.
- Do I need to do the Level 2 before the Level 3?

Yes, the Level 2 Certificate is in Fitness Coaching which you will study for 1 year before having the opportunity to progress to Level 3 Personal Training. You must complete the Level 2 before progressing to the Level 3.
- How theory based is the course?

The theory lessons are science-based and provide the knowledge needed to become a fitness instructor. In the classroom, you will study topics such as professionalism within the industry, health and safety, and the science of how the human body functions. You will also learn how to apply this knowledge effectively in practical, real-world situations.
