Music Theory Toolkit – Extend Option

This course is one of our Extend Options designed to be combined with other A Level programmes or BTEC Extended Certificate courses to make up a full timetable. If you are planning to study an A Level programme at Exeter College you will need to enrol on a four element programme, and cannot apply for this course on it’s own.

  • Course Type School Leaver
  • Subject Area Dance, Drama, Performance and Production
  • Qualification Extend 🧩
  • Study Mode: Full Time
  • Course Level Level 3
Why do this course?

Music Theory Toolkit is primarily for music students who need to develop or enhance their understanding of music theory to support their progression on their courses. All our Music courses demand a good working knowledge of music theory, but many students have not had the opportunity to take Music GCSE or BTEC – this course will get you up to speed quickly.

What will it involve?

This course will cover all the essential elements including:

  • Major & Minor scales
  • Chords and chord progressions
  • Rhythm
  • Tonality
  • Standard music notation
How might it help in the future?

A good understanding of music theory is essential for anyone studying music at any level. This course will support your progress in your A level, BTEC or UAL Music or Music Performance course as well as preparing you for further study of music at university. This would also be of benefit to anyone studying one of our Music Production courses.
