Are you an aspiring hairdresser or barber? If so, this could be the course for you. This Level 1 qualification will give you an in depth introduction to the hair and barbering sector. It provides a fun and inspirational insight into the industry and will build on your skills to allow you to progress to the next level of your area of choice.

Choose this course if you are starting out in hair or barbering, enjoy making others look good and want to gain a basic understanding of the industry. This course is also ideal if you want to prepare for further learning or training within the hair and barbering sector.

On this course you will:
- Learn to shampoo and condition hair
- Assist with colouring services
- Experience a busy, commercial environment and work with real clients
- Develop effective working relationships
- Discover the art of dressing hair
- Style women’s and men’s hair
- Plait and twist hair
- Prepare for hair services and maintain work areas
- Assist with shaving services
- Assessment

Practical, theoretical and verbal skills with clients will be assessed, along with your portfolio of evidence. You will also be assessed on your written assignments.
- Entry requirements

You will need four GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including English Language and Maths. If you don’t have a grade 4 in English and Maths, you will be required to study for this alongside your course.
Progression and careers
On successful completion of this course, you may be able to progress to a Level 2 course, employment, or an apprenticeship.
