STUDENTS from Devon schools whad a chance to write a marketing strategy and radio advert for local businesses at Exeter College’s Enterprise Day.

Around 50 students took part in the contest at Exeter’s Thistle Hotel and the college’s Creative for Creative Industries in Queen Street on Thursday, November 20.

Aimed at giving 14 and 15-year-olds experience of working with companies, the event was organised jointly by Exeter College and Devon Education Business Partnership

Each team of students were teamed with a business partner and had a chance to discuss a marketing campaign and write a radio advert to promote the business.

The students then used state-of-the-art recording facilities in the Creative for Creative Industries to create and record their jingles.

Representatives from Exeter College, Gemini and Devon Federation of Small Businesses were judging the marketing presentations and adverts.

The winning team will have their advert aired on Gemini over the next month.

Last year Isca College worked with the nightclub Timepiece to win the prize for best marketing strategy and advert.

Chris Lorimer, head of business and marketing at Exeter College, said: “This is a great opportunity for students to get hands-on experience working with local companies to create marketing strategies.

“They also had the chance to write and record radio adverts using the first-class media technology facilities at Exeter College.”
