Overview

This course has several starting dates throughout the year, please apply at an early stage.

The Care Certificate is endorsed by Skills for Care and Skills for Health and is the recognised qualification for entry and induction into the Care sector.  There are 15 standards that need to be completed.  Work-books are supplied and you will also have to be observed on at least 1 occasion in a health and social care setting whether as a volunteer or a paid member of staff.

Teaching and learning methods

All delivery takes place in the workplace however you will be expected to meet with your College assessor for an induction, although work can be submitted via email or face-to-face. This course is suitable for independent learners. All resources are provided

Modules and assessment

To achieve the Care Certificate you need to complete 15 standards including:

  • Understand your role
  • Your personal development
  • Duty of care
  • Equality and diversity
  • Work in a person centred way
  • Communication
  • Privacy and dignity
  • Fluids and nutrition
  • Awareness of mental health, dementia and learning disabilities
  • Infection prevention and control

The course is designed to give you the basic knowledge to embark on a career in care and meet the requirements. You may be able to progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Adult Care.

Entry Requirements

You must be working or have access to volunteering opportunities in a health or social care setting.

Your Employer will need to give permission for College staff to enter their premises to carry out observations of your practice.
