Overview

This diploma has been designed specifically for people working in a school and supporting children’s learning.
This qualification is designed for employed practitioners who are working in schools, experienced in their role, involved in planning learning activities and promoting the needs of individuals. It is ideal for those looking to progress from working as a general teaching assistant role to a more specialist role.

This is a course which lasts up to 18 months. Your assessor will arrange to see you in your work place to plan assignments and assess your competence. You may also meet with your assessor by appointment on a one to one basis at the college to cover the underpinning knowledge and carry out assessments. An Online portfolio system is used which is accessible to you 24/7.

What topics will I study?

You will study 11 mandatory units which include subjects such as managing behaviour and safeguarding and can also choose up to 4 optional units which will relate to your specialist role or interests.

Once you have completed this course you may be eligible to work towards a Foundation Degree in Learning Support. You may also consider working towards HLTA status.

Entry Requirements

You must have employment in a real work environment for a minimum of approx. 16 hours, have completed a DBS check (formerly CRB) and also have good levels of literacy.
