This course is excellent preparation for GCSE and is ideal for anyone needing to improve their spelling, punctuation, vocabulary and grammar. You will take two online exams – one in reading and one in writing and your speaking and listening skills will also be assessed by your teacher. It is suitable for anyone who has not achieved Functional Skills or Key Skills at Level 1 or Level 2 or who gained a low grade GCSE (grade E, F or G) at school.

Applicants must be fluent speakers of English and bilingual learners should have achieved ESOL, Level 2 in reading and writing or be assessed as working at that level. To study this course you will need to be physically and mentally well and able to cope with the regular commitment of a once a week class and capable of some independent study.

What topics will I study?

Topics are based around everyday situations such as travel, leisure, community life, personal identity and other matters that will be of interest to a specific group. The aim is to improve both reading and writing skills for working and personal life.

Entry Requirements

ESOL Level 2 Reading and Writing for bilingual learners or Entry Level 3 for native speakers.

Additional Costs

This is a FREE course but please note there is a resource fee of £40. For ineligible learners (those from outside the EU or those who have achieved a grade C or grade 4 already) a fee of £724 applies. This includes the £40 resource fee.
