Overview

This course is for complete beginners or for people who wish to brush up their school French. You will learn how to ask for and give basic information and also have conversations in a variety of settings whilst visiting French-speaking countries.

Learning is through tutor presentation, role plays and practice, with the emphasis on speaking. You will be able to work on your own, in pairs, or small groups and there will be opportunities to work at your own pace, with extra homework activities if required.

Please note that this is a three part course.

  • Pronunciation introduction
  • Numbers 1 – 100
  • Giving personal information about names and addresses
  • Giving basic information about colleagues, friends and relatives
  • Talk about jobs, age, marital status
  • Getting something to eat and drink in a bar
  • Obtaining something to eat in a restaurant
  • Understanding menus
  • Food vocabulary
  • Learning about currency.

There is an intermediate French Course available.

Entry Requirements

None – the course is for beginners. Please note that Part 2 and 3 are continuation courses and therefore suitable for people who have done some French.

Facilities

Learners will be given a college ID badge and have access to all college facilities, including learning centres and computers.

Additional Costs

If learners wish to purchase a textbook, grammar resource or dictionary to help with home study, your lecturer can advise you when you come to class.
