What topics will I study?
Often working directly from the Still Life object or Figure, we will be looking at Line, Tone, and Colour. This will include various drawing techniques such as the basics of correct proportions, as well as looking at the darks and lights that play across the object or figure. We will also be looking at colour within these darks and lights, mixing colour, and exploring a variety of different painting mediums. Pastels, Water colour, Acrylics, and Oil paints.
Each session will consist of warm up exercises that are relevant to the session theme and sometimes we will be focussing on one particular figure feature, e.g. nose, mouth, ears, etc.
These exercises are then followed by a single longer drawing. Here the emphasis is on developing your individual work through one to one tuition. We will also be referencing historical and contemporary artists’ work.
Learning takes place through a combination of tutor explanation, peer group exercises, one to one tuition, practical demonstrations as well as learning from other class members.
This course can lead on to any other art related course in Adult Learning that you prefer e.g. water colour, oils and acrylics, portraiture, life drawing, sculpture, pottery etc. You might decide to follow the more academic route of GCSEs, A Levels etc.
