“I have always enjoyed Business. My plan ultimately would be start my own business, in property perhaps. I have had such a good time learning lots of new things on the course. I study two days a week in College, but it’s a full time course so lots of study outside of College. Everyone at College is very supportive and we’ve made strong friendships on the course. I would 100% recommend Exeter College as a place to study.”

“I study full time, condensed into two days a week. I hope to move onto the BA Business Management degree when I complete the FdA. I studied an Apprenticeship in Business Administration before the degree. I really enjoy studying Business. During one of the units in the first year we had to come up with our own business enterprise idea and I developed a plan to deliver visual impairment awareness training. My tutor is really supportive of my plans and I would like to set up the business when I leave the College.

I really enjoy studying the FdA. It is really interactive and engaging. We get given the opportunity to ask lots of questions, everyone is really supportive and encouraging.

The College has been really supportive and accommodating with regards my visual impairment as well. I am proud to be a Student Governor now too and advocate for other disabled students here at the College.”

“I would really encourage others to study with Exeter College, it has been fantastic for me. I studied ESOL to improve my English, and then moved on to GCSE English and Access to Higher Education (Business) before starting a Foundation Degree in Business, all at Exeter College. The tutors at Exeter College are very patient, friendly and have helped me greatly on my learning journey. I will study for two more years and then I will do the top-up course and I may look to do further study at Exeter College. Access to HE was challenging but with the right support at College I progressed and everything was worth the hard work. I have met lots of really nice people on my courses too. My Business FdA course is giving me lots of skills, all the assignments are helping me a lot. I would 100% recommend Exeter College.”

“One thing that the College does really well is to provide a distinct adult/higher education space so that you feel like you are a full university level learner and not just coming to College. As a mature learner, this was particularly important for me. During my time at the College, we had several interesting guest speakers who were all relevant to our course and helped to link what we were learning to real, ambitious industry settings. As well as the academic knowledge that my studies have provided, I have also developed readily transferable skills that I can take into the workplace, such as data analysis and the ability to present to a large group, as well as soft skills such as team working, delegation and effective communication. College has broadened my horizons as to what I can achieve within my career.

I progressed onto the Business BA course having initially completed a Level 3 Business Admin Apprenticeship at the College, followed by a Business HNC and HND. I had really enjoyed these previous courses and the College by now felt like a second home, so I had no doubts about wanting to continue onto a third year of HE study. My previous experience of the College’s teaching, facilities and overall culture gave me full confidence.

I was lucky during my time as a student to have excellent tutors, both with industry knowledge but also a firm grounding in education. This mixture gave them a level of authority to go with their natural passion for the subject. My main tutors were supported by a team of helpful and knowledgeable lecturers who were all specialists in their individual areas. Then there is the College’s excellent support staff, varying from mental health and wellbeing services to financial advice and travel support. The other aspect worth mentioning is the superb range of study resources available at the College. In addition to the wide range of physical books and higher education-only spaces in the College’s Learning Resource Centres, there is also a vast range of material available through various online source.

I would definitely recommend Exeter College to any prospective students, irrespective of what course they may be interested in. There is an incredible range of study routes and options to choose from, surrounded by state of the art facilities, all within a welcoming, supportive and inclusive environment designed to get the best out of you as a student.”

“After many years working in Law, I was given an opportunity to teach Law A Level. This is something the College is sponsoring me through on the CertEd, so that I have a teaching qualification as well.

We learn how important it is to bring active learning into the classroom, and we do a lot of academic reading around that as part of the course but also lots of practical, hands-on microteaching, so we gain day-to-day skills as well.”

“The tutors are great, they are so experienced and act as mentors as well as tutors and my peers are just incredible…It’s just been a warm, welcoming and supportive group.

The quality of the course was incredible too, the way it was structured and delivered is excellent. It aligns to the national framework by the National Counselling Society, which is a brilliant link as it is the professional body who you will be part of when you qualify.”
