What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

This Intermediate Apprenticeship offers a practical approach for those looking for a career in the Automotive body repair and/or refinishing industry working with vehicles
that have been damaged in accidents or need repairing. Apprentices will have access to refinishing resources which are to industry specification. Full spraying facilities include live paint mixing scheme and spray bake booth and will benefit from strong links with our employers.

What topics will I study?

Apprentices will be working towards achievement of the following:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Accident Repair - Body Refinishing
  • Level 2 VRQ and VCQ in Vehicle Accident Repair - Body Refinishing
  • Employee Rights and Responsibilities
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
  • Functional Skills in ICT, English and Maths (where applicable)

Topics include:

  • Knowledge and skills of health, safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment
  • Knowledge and skills of supporting job roles in the Automotive work environment
  • Knowledge and skills in tools and equipment used in vehicle refinishing
  • Knowledge and skills in preparing metal and pre-painted surfaces
  • Knowledge and skills in repairing minor paint defects
  • Knowledge and skills in removing and fitting non permanently fixed motor vehicle body panels
  • Knowledge and skills in applying filler and foundation materials

What experiences will I get?

You will work on our fleet of up-to-date vehicles including a Smart car and Nissan Leaf.

What are the entry requirements?

Learners ideally need to have Maths, English and ICT GCSE at Grades 9 to 3 (A to D).

What facilities are there?

  • A large modern fully equipped workshop
  • A state of the art automotive diagnostic laboratory with test simulators and rigs
  • A dedicated IT laboratory with internet access
  • Four specific automotive training classrooms
  • Meeting and function rooms
  • Attached restaurant

What can the course lead on to?

On successful completion of Level 2, you may progress to the Advanced Apprenticeship.

Are there any additional costs?

You will need safety boots, overalls and recommended text books.

What support can I get?

You will have a dedicated Skills Officer who you can contact at any time. They will visit you in the workplace every 10 weeks to carry out a progress review with you and your employer.
