What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

The Care Certificate is endorsed by Skills for Care and Skills for Health and is the recognised qualification for entry and induction into the are sector.  There are 15 standards that need to be completed.  Work-books are supplied and you will also have to be observed on at least 1 occasion in a health and social care setting wither as a volunteer or a paid member of staff.

  • Duty of care
  • Equality and diversity
  • Work in a person centred way              
  • Communication
  • Privacy and dignity
  • Fluids and nutrition
  • Awareness of mental health, dementia and learning disabilities
  • Infection prevention and control

What are the entry requirements?

You must be working or have access to volunteering opportunities in a health or social care setting.

What facilities are there?

Learners will be given a college ID badge and have access to all college facilities, including learning centres and computers.

What can the course lead on to?

The course is designed to give you the basic knowledge to embark on a career in care and meet the requirements.  You may be able to progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Adult Care.

Are there any additional costs?

Peripatetic assessment is included in the fee.

It is important that you apply and pay for your course at least one week before the course starts to ensure that you will have access to all the facilities and resources in your first week.
Please be aware that there are no car parking facilities at Exeter College city centre sites, but public car parks are available across the city.
