What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

Students may not have used spreadsheets before but must be familiar with using a mouse and keyboard.

(OR have completed ‘Computers – The Basics – Part 1’).

This course is designed for those who have never used spreadsheets or have very little experience and want to learn some more. Tutor will give feedback on all the work but there are no exams.

What topics will I study?

Students will vary in their ability and have different exercises so all can progress.  The skills taught are:

  • Creating a spreadsheet
  • Use basic calculations (add/subtract/multiply/divide)
  • Edit work/calculations
  • Save and open work
  • Experiment with different font styles & sizes.

What are the entry requirements?

No formal requirements but must be familiar with using mouse and keyboard.

What facilities are there?

There are sufficient computers for students to work individually.  The College Library and Learning Resource Centre are available for use by students.

What can the course lead on to?

These skills could be helpful at home, in the workplace or on any course requiring basic spreadsheet knowledge.
