What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

This course is for those who have a little knowledge of Italian, and who have the skills to make quick progress in language learning in a short time. The focus is on practising oral and listening skills. By the end of the course, a student would be able to communicate in a variety of situations in Italy, and also have a basic understanding of grammar.

Course dates for spring and summer terms 2018 have now run - please check back in May 2018 for further dates. Thank you.

What topics will I study?

On this course students will find out about pronunciation of Italian, some elements of grammar such as indefinite and definite articles, and the present tense of regular and some common irregular verbs.

The topics that will be covered include basic greetings, asking and answering simple questions about yourself; telling the time; ordering food and drink in a bar and restaurant; shopping for food; giving street directions; talking about daily routines.

What are the entry requirements?

None.

What facilities are there?

Learners will be given a college ID badge and have access to all college facilities, including learning centres and computers.

What can the course lead on to?

Students can progress on to the Italian Beginners part 3 course in the Summer term and from there to the Intermediate part 1 course in September 2018.

Are there any additional costs?

Students will be given a course booklet containing everything covered on the course, so there is no need to buy a textbook. However, it may be useful to purchase a small Italian-English dictionary.

It is important that you apply and pay for your course at least one week before the course starts to ensure that you will have access to all the facilities and resources in your first week.
Please be aware that there are no car parking facilities at Exeter College city centre sites, but public car parks are available across the city.
