What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

This course will help you develop the basic skills and knowledge to use a computer in a professional work environment. 

You will need to be able to work in a group but you will also need to be motivated to work independently on some assignments. For your IT course you will be assessed via assignments, coursework and presentations. You will need to sit tests for your Maths and English.

What topics will I study?

You will improve both your hardware and software knowledge and increase your understanding of the way computers work. You will learn how to use approximately 10 software applications in a professional environment, including web design, spreadsheet and digital media software. This course not only aims to increase your skills and knowledge but also to improve your general confidence. In addition, an important element of this course is to improve your ability in English and Maths.

What experiences will I get?

There will be an opportunity for a week of work experience in the summer term.

What are the entry requirements?

English and Maths entry requirements: Minimum Grade 2 in English language and in Maths.
Plus standard entry requirements: Two GCSEs at grade 2 or above, or equivalent.
Subject specific entry requirements or recommendations: An interest in gaining a job in IT is really important.

What can I study alongside this course?

This course is studied on its own and cannot be combined with other courses.

What facilities are there?

You will have access to all the college facilities, including a student restaurant, full media suite and fully equipped learning resource centre.

What can the course lead on to?

On successful completion you may be able to progress to a Level 2 course or an apprenticeship. Some students choose to seek employment.

Course fees are applicable.
