What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

This course progresses your career by training you to achieve Master Technician status. The course will be covered though a variety of online learning resources plus block attendance of classroom study three times a year at our state of the art Technology Centre. To attend this course you will need to have successfully completed a Level 3 automotive qualification in either light or heavy vehicle.

The course is assessed through written assignments covering all of the topics listed below.

What topics will I study?

The purpose and aim of this new IMI Awards' Level 4 Certificate in Advanced Automotive Studies for Master Technicians (VRQ) is to offer individuals, who are experienced technicians in the automotive industry, the opportunity to develop their knowledge of:

  • Management principles 
  • Advanced vehicle technologies, including alternative fuel vehicles 
  • Liaising with manufacturers and suppliers on technical matters 
  • Providing colleagues with technical advice and support 
  • Undertaking diagnostic consultations with customers

What are the entry requirements?

The typical learner for this qualification will be 19+, working in the industry and will hold a Level 3 automotive technical qualification and/or an Advanced Apprenticeship. They will have experience of diagnosing and rectifying faults on a wide range of vehicle systems, including electrical system operations.

Full Diagnostics suite with a variety of modern vehicles. Experienced staff with a wealth of knowledge from Franchise to Non Franchise dealerships.
