What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

This course will help you develop the basic skills and knowledge to enable you to work in a professional travel, tourism and hospitality environment.

You will be taught mainly in a group but you will also need to be motivated to work independently on some assignments. You will be assessed via assignments and coursework. You will need to sit tests for your maths and English.

What topics will I study?

You will improve both your customer care understanding as well as your ability to take up a front line customer service role, producing solutions to customer enquiries.  This course not only aims to increase your skills and knowledge but also to improve your general confidence.  In addition, an important element of this course is to improve your ability in English and maths.

What experiences will I get?

There will be an opportunity for a week of work experience in the Spring term as well as various trips and visits to local employers and tourist destinations.

What are the entry requirements?

English and maths entry requirements: Grade 2 in English Language and in Maths.
Plus standard entry requirements: Two GCSEs at grade 2 or above, or equivalent.
Subject specific entry requirements or recommendations: An interest in gaining a job in the hospitality and tourism industry is really important.

What can I study alongside this course?

This course is studied on its own and cannot be combined with other courses.

What facilities are there?

You will have access to all the college facilities, including a student restaurant, full media suite, gym and fully-equipped learning resource centre.

What can the course lead on to?

On successful completion you may be able to progress to a Level 2 course or an Apprenticeship. Some students choose to seek employment.

Are there any additional costs?

A £45 resourse fee applies.

The resource fee covers trips and visits, external speakers course material and any additional activities such as cooking ingredients and photography equipment.

This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are resident in the UK and the European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 19 on 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course).
