What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

This course covers all you need to start playing – tuning, chords, melody, strumming and picking. Learn correct technique and basic theory from the start with a wide variety of songs.  No need to read music. New students with a little experience are welcome to join in Spring and Summer terms. You will need to bring your own guitar.

• Tuning
• Tablature (a much simpler system of music notation for the guitar)
•  Starter Chords
•  Strumming, rhythm and timing
•  Picking
• Melody

What are the entry requirements?

None. This course is aimed at absolute beginners.

What facilities are there?

The college library and learning centre is available for use by students.

What can the course lead on to?

Continuation of the Beginners Guitar course into the Spring and Summer terms, followed by the second and third years of the course - click here to view other options.

Are there any additional costs?

You will need a guitar and pen and paper. The tutor will advise you on any other equipment that you will require.
