What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

This course is suitable for parents and grandparents. There is no formal assessment, participants will receive a certificate of attendance. It is a practical course with the opportunity to practise the skills being taught on manikins.

What topics will I study?

The course will cover the basics of first aid:

  • Assessing the level of consciousness
  • Recovery position
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Using an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Choking
  • Bleeding

What are the entry requirements?

None. Anyone is welcome. 

What facilities are there?

All equipment will be supplied. Participants should be prepared to take their turn at being a casualty. Comfortable casual clothing is recommended as there is kneeling on the floor involved.

It is important that you apply and pay for your course at least one week before the course starts to ensure that you will have access to all the facilities and resources in your first week.
Please be aware that there are no car parking facilities at Exeter College city centre sites, but public car parks are available across the city.
