What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

This course provides a mentoring programme to assist your small business start-up. You will channel your creative skills and develop an innovative approach to a realistic business enterprise. You will automatically be part of the Enterprise Academy when studying on this course.

Choosing this course with give you the real life skills needed to develop a small business with local entrepreneurs supporting you at every stage. This course sits within our Enterprise Academy suite of programmes allowing you to experience a more hands on approach to learning. The Academy hosts a local entrepreneur mentoring and guess speaker programme as well as residential trips to experience industry networking, trade fairs and exhibitions across the country to support you small business start-up.

What topics will I study?

Subjects studied will enhance and build upon your ideas such as:

  • Market Research
  • Producing a Business Plan
  • Launching your Business
  • Financial Planning
  • Planning the Future Strategy
  • E-Marketing

What experiences will I get?

There is a host of real life business experiences to include, industry networking, conferencing, residential business trips, project work in the community, guess speakers and real life trading.  

What are the entry requirements?

English and maths entry requirements: Grade 4 in English language and maths.

Plus standard entry requirements: Six GCSEs at grade 4 or above.

Subject specific entry requirements: You need to demonstrate that you have creative skills and a passion to own your own business at the interview. Ideally you will have a business start up idea to talk through at interview. This qualification is equivilent to two A Levels at the end of year 2. Through this course you will gain a BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate/Diploma qualification in Enterprise and Entrpreneurship.

What can I study alongside this course?

You can combine this course with others in order to make a full programme. 

What facilities are there?

There is a dedicated Enterprise Academy room in Victoria House, with a resource library as well as access to a learning resource centre. An online Moodle forum is available for all Enterprise students to contact the mentors at any point. There is a refectory. 

What can the course lead on to?

Upon successful completion of this course, you will progress onto the BTEC Diploma in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship.

This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are resident in the UK and the European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 19 on 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course).
