What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

Level 3 Paediatric First Aid is a theoretical and practical course covering unit 1 and unit 2 of paediatric first aid. The course satisfies the guidelines and criteria as defined by Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Ofsted. It is suitable for those working with children either as a volunteer or in employment and parents.

• Dealing with an unresponsive casualty • Wounds and bleeding • Shock
• Assessment of the situation • Minor injuries • Epilepsy
• Choking • Infection control • First Aid equipment
• Recovery position

• Head injuries • Sickle cell anaemia • Asthma
• Fractures and spinal injuries • Diabetes • Heat and cold
• Febrile convulsions • Foreign bodies • Bites and stings
• Ear, eye and nose injuries • Burns and scalds • Poisoning
• Electrical injuries • Meningitis

What are the entry requirements?

You must be willing to take part in practical activities to demonstrate first aid procedures and to act as a casualty. This will involve lying on the floor and kneeling.

What facilities are there?

Learners will be given a college ID badge and have access to all college facilities, including learning centres and computers. 

What can the course lead on to?

The course satisfies the guidelines and criteria as defined by Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Ofsted. With this qualification you can take the role of a recognised paediatric first aider.

Are there any additional costs?

All materials needed to complete the course will be supplied.

It is important that you apply and pay for your course at least one week before the course starts to ensure that you will have access to all the facilities and resources in your first week.
Please be aware that there are no car parking facilities at Exeter College city centre sites, but public car parks are available across the city.
