What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?
This is a hands on practical course for beginners or those with some experience. You will look at a wide range of DIY skills including carpentry, plumbing, plastering and bricklaying. You will need to wear solid shoes and overalls/old clothing. All materials provided.
Students will have informal assessment and feedback from the tutor and this will be recorded on an individual learning plan. Students will not have access to machinery during classes.

You will cover the following (Similar format all three terms, format is flexible and may vary):
- health and safety and basic tools
- basic wood joints; advanced hand tools
- brick wall construction
- introduction to power tools
- sanders and planers
- basic decorating skills
- basic plastering skills
- introduction to tiling and grouting, basic plumbing, taps, radiator bleeding, joints, leak detection, stop valves and ball cocks.
