What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

Find out how to take prompts and starting points and use them to create fiction in some form, plus how to put your ideas onto paper.

You will learn to self-critique and analyse and discuss your own work.

This is a relaxed class where discussion and the sharing of ideas is very important. By the end of the course you will have a body of work and you will hopefully contribute to a class anthology.

What do our students think?

The tutor was inspiring and empowering, with a knack for drawing out the best in people while still being clear in helping them understand their errors."

I had given up writing – I never seemed to get anywhere. Then I noticed a Creative Writing evening class given by Exeter College and decided to try again, one last time. The tutor's enthusiasm and energy re-awoke my interest and the course ended for me with an application to Exeter College/Marjon’s new Creative Writing and English BA Honours course, a proper three year degree. I am now in my third year and will be graduating this summer. I can never thank the tutor Sam enough. I remember a visitor to Sam’s class saying that we must be exhausted at the end of the session. One of my classmates, Phil, said that no, we were invigorated and could carry on for hours. We all agreed. She’s the best.”

The tutor's passion for creative writing and her dedication to her students were evident in all three courses I attended. I thoroughly enjoyed all of her classes, made improvement and gained confidence as a creative writer and met many new friends as well. Without her enthusiasm, encouragement and support I would never have enrolled for an English Literature and Creative Writing degree after the advanced course ended. She is a motivational and inspirational tutor.”

It is important that you apply and pay for your course at least one week before the course starts to ensure that you will have access to all the facilities and resources in your first week.
Please be aware that there are no car parking facilities at Exeter College city centre sites, but public car parks are available across the city.
