What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

This nail technology award builds on the basic skills of a manicure qualification. You will develop the particular skills which are required for providing and maintaining nail enhancements.
Your programme of study will include practical and theory classes, where you will learn the necessary anatomy and physiology of the nail, nail conditions and how to consult, select and use the appropriate products, tools and equipment to provide and maintain nail enhancements.
There will be assignment work and practical observations which will help you develop a portfolio of evidence for verification. Your practical skills will be developed on fellow students using the UV gel system – once competence is reached; clients are to be used for assessment. Home study may be advised for some aspects of the course.
You will be assessed practically, theoretically and orally in all areas. Testimonials may be required as evidence in some cases. Completed portfolios presenting your work will be are verified throughout the programme, and should include assessment books, assignments, theoretical papers and practical observation evidence.
You will study the programme through a range of activities, discussions and practical tasks that will cover the following areas:
- Health and safety working practices
- Communication and consultation skills
- Knowledge of nail enhancement products, tools and equipment
- Anatomy and physiology of the nail and nail conditions
- UV gel nail enhancement applications and their maintenance
- Contra-actions and aftercare advice, to include trouble shooting
