What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

For complete beginners with no prior knowledge or those who wish to brush up their skills.  You will learn the language you need for basic survival in Chinese Mandarin speaking countries, including how to ask for and give basic information and have short conversations in a variety of settings.

What topics will I study?

Beginner's level Chinese: listening and speaking skills, the reading and writing of characters, pinyin and tones in key everyday situations. The topics include pinyin & tones (pronunciation), numbers, greetings, names, family, nationalities and occupations. 

What are the entry requirements?

No entry requirements, but patience and tenacity are an asset. Parts 2 and 3 of the course may require completion of the earlier stages, please contact the college for further details.

What facilities are there?

You will have access to a learning centre.

What can the course lead on to?

Progression is measured by weekly dialogues, the three formal assessments, and overt and covert teacher assessment. You may progress on to the parts 2 and 3 of the Beginner's course.

Are there any additional costs?

Course book - “Chinese Express-Talk Chinese” by Moon Tan & Haitong Wang, will need to be purchased at extra cost.
