What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

This City & Guilds course prepares you for employment working directly with children and young people in a supervised role. You will have a dedicated assessor who will work with you in your workplace on a 1:1 basis to gather the evidence required for the practical and knowledge requirements. The course lasts for up to 1 year and we use an online portfolio system which is accessible to you 24/7.

Course dates are:-

  • 16.09.2019 to 14.09.2020 - variable days
  • 13.01.2020 to 11.01.2021 - variable days
  • 27.04.2020 to 26.04.2021 - variable days

What topics will I study?

You will independently study a range of topics that relate to your role, such as creative activities, child development, working as part of a team and duty of care and provide various forms of evidence to prove your understanding and competency; assignments, discussions, observations and questions.

What are the entry requirements?

You will require a good level of communication, English and Maths. Ideally a minimum of a GCSE grade D or equivalent, however each case is considered individually. You need patience, understanding, a strong desire to work with people and good communication skills. You will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for your employer.

What can the course lead on to?

On successful completion of this course, you could progress directly into the workplace as a nursery, preschool or childcare assistant. This course is also an excellent preparation for the Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner - Early Years Educator - Level 3

Are there any additional costs?

You will have to pay for a 12 hour Paediatric First Aid course (available at the college for approx £90).
