What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

This certificate has been designed specifically for people working in an Early Years or out of school setting supporting children’s care and education. The Certificate show competence to work under supervision and enable practitioners to count in the ratio for the Early Years Foundation Stage. It will show knowledge and understanding of supporting the developmental needs of children, working to the policies and procedures of your setting and proves you are able to carry out your job to the specified requirements. The course lasts for 1 year and an assessor will arrange to see you in your work place to plan assignments and assess your competence.  You may also meet with your assessor by appointment on a one to one basis at the college to cover the underpinning knowledge and carry out assessments. An Online portfolio system is used which is accessible to you 24/7.

  • 18th September 2017 to the 17th September 2018.
  • 15th January 2018 to the 14th January 2019.
  • 9th April 2018 to the 8th April 2019

What topics will I study?

This qualification has been designed to provide an introduction to the practical skills and knowledge required in a assistant role and will provide occupational competence to work under the supervision of qualified practitioners. This is an ideal introductory course for those that are new to the sector. 

What are the entry requirements?

You must have employment or be volunteering in a real work environment for a minimum of approx 10/12 hours, have completed a DBS check (formerly CRB) and also have good levels of literacy.

What can the course lead on to?

This course is an excellent preparation for the Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner - Early Years Educator - Level 3

Are there any additional costs?

You will have to pay for a 12 hour Paediatric First Aid course (available at the college for approx £90).
