What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

A practical, work-related course. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It is equivalent to 1 GCE AS Level. The Certificate provides both a grounding in business education and firm basis for specialising in a selected avenue of business activity.

The units are internally assessed by coursework and checked by Pearson. An overall grade for the qualification is awarded to all learners who successfully complete all units.  The individual units are graded with Pass, Merit or Distinction and these when added together at the end of the year relate to the overall grade of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*

 

What topics will I study?

The course is made up of 3 units:

  • The Business Environment
  • Business Resources
  • Introduction to Marketing

What experiences will I get?

There will be the opportunity for day trips and a residential which will be costed separately.

What are the entry requirements?

English and Maths entry requirements: Grade 4 in GCSE English Language and Maths.
Additional entry requirements: Six GCSEs at grade 4 or above.
 

What can I study alongside this course?

You can combine this course with others in order to make a full time programme of study.

What facilities are there?

You will have access to a learning resource centre. There is a refectory in Victoria House. Students have the opportunity to take part in enrichment activities such as Young Chamber or Enterprise Club.

What can the course lead on to?

When combined with other Level 3 courses, students may choose to progress on to the HNC/HND Business at Exeter College.  Previous students have also gone on to study International Business at the University of Manchester and Event Management at Thames Valley University as well as other degrees. BTEC Level 3 courses are valued by employers and can lead to career opportunities in business specialism such as finance, human resources, management or marketing.  Learners may also progress with employment to professional qualifications such the Certificate in Management and Leadership Studies.

This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are resident in the UK and the European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 19 on 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course).
