What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

A practical, work related course. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.
The Diploma provides both a broad foundation of business education and firm basis for specialising in a selected avenue of business activity.

The units are all internally assessed by coursework and checked by Edexcel. An overall grade for the qualification is awarded to all learners who successfully complete all units.. The individual units are graded with pass, merit or distinction and these when added together at the end of the two years relate to the overall grade of: Pass, Pass, Pass (PPP) (120 UCAS points) Merit, Merit, Pass (MMP) (160 UCAS points) Merit, Merit, Pass (MMP) (200 UCAS points) Merit, Merit, Merit (MMM) (240 UCAS points Distinction, Distinction, Merit (DDM) 280 UCAS points) Distinction, Distinction, Distinction (DDD) (360 UCAS points).

What are the entry requirements?

You need at least five GCSEs at Grade C or above (including English Language and maths). You are expected to have an interest in business studies, with the aim to progress to university level study or a career in business.

What facilities are there?

Learners will be given a college ID badge and have access to all college facilities, including learning centres and computers. 

What can the course lead on to?

Many students choose to progress on to the HND Business at Exeter College. Previous students have also gone on to study International Business at the University of Manchester, and Event Management at Thames Valley University as well as other degrees. BTEC Level 3 Extended Diplomas are valued by employers and lead to career opportunities in business specialisms such as finance, human resources, management or marketing. Learners may also progress within employment to professional qualifications such as those offered by the Chartered Institute of Management Accounting (CIMA) or Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT). You will need to achieve a minimum of three merits to go to university.

It is important that you apply and pay for your course at least one week before the course starts to ensure that you will have access to all the facilities and resources in your first week.
Please be aware that there are no car parking facilities at Exeter College city centre sites, but public car parks are available across the city.
