What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

A Barber Apprentice will work to shampoo, condition and cut hair using barbering techniques. You will also learn to cut facial hair into shape and provide shaving services for men. At the same time, you will learn to effectively communicate with your clients, ensuring you achieve their desired result.

What topics will I study?

Topics will include:

  • Using shampoo, tonics and conditioning products
  • Cutting hair using barbering to create a variety of looks
  • Style and finish men's hair
  • How to design and create a full beard, partial beard and mustache
  • Prepare the hair and skin for shaving, products, tools and equipment etc...
  • The types of blades available
  • Weight distribution and working with the natural growth patterns of the hair, cutting angles and resulting weight distribution, balance and the degree of graduation

What are the entry requirements?

Maths and English GCSE, grade C/4 (or equivalent). If you do not have these qualifications our team will support you to gain these skills alongside your apprenticeship

  • Our hairdressing and barbering staff are also incredibly skilled and will provide you with all the knowledge and vocational practice you need to excel in your workplace and future career.

What can the course lead on to?

Apprentices will be working towards achievement of the following:

  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Barbering
  • Employee Rights and Responsibilities
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths (where applicable)

Following successful completion of this qualification you may progress to employment or progress onto the NVQ3 Diploma in Barbering.

This course will launch you directly into the workplace and provides an excellent way to build your career and progress to further training or full time work.

Are there any additional costs?

What support can I get?

You will have a dedicated Skills Officer who you can contact at any time. They will visit you in the workplace every 10 weeks to carry out a progress review with you and your employer.

What will this training cost me?

This can vary depending on the age of the Apprentice and the size of an organisation. There will be no cost to the Apprentice.
