What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

Becoming a Personal Trainer is a very rewarding career for those looking to help others reach their fitness goals. We have a fitness instruction and personal training package that, at an affordable price, will enable you to work within the health and fitness industry.  The course comprises the two key stages required to achieve employment as a fully qualified personal trainer. Firstly you will build a foundation of knowledge and experience to deliver safe group exercise before progressing, gaining a more in-depth understanding enabling you to focus on working one to one with clients and their individual fitness goals.

What topics will I study?

Stage 1 of course (Gym based fitness instructor) comprises of modules completing modules/assessments on:

Anatomy and Physiology

 -1 x 60 minute hour multiple choice examination

Principles of Exercise and Fitness
- 1 x 60 minute hour multiple choice examination

Practical delivery
- 1 x summative practical assessment (with your subject)

Health and Safety
- 2 x worksheets

 

Stage 2 of the course (Personal Trainer) comprises of modules/assessments on:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Programming Principles for Personal Trainers (including special populations and different environments)
  • Nutrition and Weight Management
  • Delivering Personal Training Sessions (including functional and portable equipment)
  • Functional Training and Movement Analysis
  • Client Lifestyle and Fitness Appraisal (including lifestyle and stress management)
  • Postural and Core Stability
  • Flexibility Methods
  • Core Training
  • Introduction to Communication, Motivational Techniques and Behaviour Change Strategies

 

Assessment will be:

2 x 60 minute multiple choice examinations

1 x 1 hour Practical Assessment

1 x 12 week periodised programme, 4 programme cards and the completion and evaluation of knowledge questions

4 PT sessions

1 x Professional Discussion exploring your 12 week plan

1 x Client Lifestyle Assessment 1 x Nutrition Case Study

What are the entry requirements?

No prior qualifications are required for this course though a reasonable level of fitness is. Writing and numeracy skills are also required for presentation of course work. Minimum age is 18.

What facilities are there?

College classrooms and Central Fitness College gym for practical elements.

What can the course lead on to?

Progression on to roles such as personal trainer and exercise specialist.
