What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

This course enables students to develop skills using the materials and techniques of acrylic painting. Techniques will be introduced and demonstrated, followed by support and tuition matched to individual progression, meaning that complete beginners can work alongside more experienced students.

What topics will I study?

The course focuses on a series of set subjects, aiming to explore the potential of this medium with a range of approaches. For example: landscape; using impasto and scumbling techniques.

Topics covered include:

  • Grounds and supports – (what surface can I paint on?)
  • Selecting brushes and other implements
  • Paint handling
  • Colour mixing
  • Use of additives
  • Impasto

What are the entry requirements?

None, beginners welcome - just need enthusiasm and determination.

What facilities are there?

Learners will be given a college ID badge and have access to all college facilities, including learning centres and computers. 

What can the course lead on to?

Further part time art courses at Exeter College.

Are there any additional costs?

Materials provided for the first session, but students will need to provide their own paints, brushes etc. by the second week. A full list of necessary items will be provided.
