About the College

Exeter College Nursery

Our day nursery is situated in the city centre at the rear of Exeter College’s Queen Street site.

The children, staff and parents benefit from a purpose built nursery with bright spacious playrooms and a large outdoor play area. The Nursery is Ofsted registered for up to 40 children from 3 months to 5 years.

The children are divided by age into three base rooms:

Our Staff

The caring team of nursery practitioners working with the children and parents vary in age and are qualified well above the regulations set out in the Statutory Safeguarding and Welfare Guidelines in the Early Years Foundation Stage 2012. The nursery follows safe recruitment procedures ensuring that all prospective employees are interviewed, references taken up and CRB checks carried out prior to employment.

    Linda Pressley

    Linda Pressley, Nursery Manager

I have worked with children for over twenty years in several different nurseries and reception classes in school. I have worked as an advisor helping young mums back into work or education and supporting them to find appropriate childcare. I have also worked for Ofsted as an early years inspector. I gained my Early Years degree nine years ago as a mature student. I have two grown up children and a small granddaughter. I love working with children and particularly enjoy outdoor activities with them such as den building and gardening. In my spare time I like to knit and sew and catch up with family and friends.

    Jenny Oldland

    Jenny Oldland, Nursery Housekeeper

I have worked at the nursery for four and half years and absolutely love it. Prior to working at the nursery I was in school catering for 19 years. I love cooking especially making cakes and baking. I also love needlework, watching motor bike racing, supporting Exeter City FC and playing darts. I am married to Rodg and have 5 children and a dog called Sam who is the coolest dog ever! I am very excited at the moment as I am going to be a Nan for the first time in the summer.

The Curriculum

The children encounter an engaging curriculum planned by experienced staff that covers all areas of learning, which includes quiet times for reflection and rest and time for consolidation of new skills. Children are offered a variety of activities including, messy play, cooking, play dough, painting, imaginary play, outdoor play, den building, physical play, music and song activities, story times, construction toys, visits out in the local and wider community and much more.

The staff work closely with parents to ensure the individual needs of each child are met. We consult parents about their child’s routine preferences, likes and dislikes. Each child is allocated a key worker. This member of staff will take a particular interest in the child and will help him/her to settle into nursery life. They monitor the child’s development and ensure that the nursery offers activities tailored to each child’s individual needs and interests.
