What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?
This course is for hairdressers who wish to develop their hairdressing skills further to an advanced level. You will develop a portfolio of evidence and be assessed practically on your creative cutting, styling and dressing, advanced colouring and colour correction techniques at college and within your workplace. You will have a dedicated Skills Officer who will visit you in the workplace to carry out assessments and progress review with you and your employer You will be assessed theoretically in all areas and complete online exams.

You will have the opportunity to participate in competitions to enhance your creative skills and attend educational trips/visits.
What are the entry requirements?
This is a progression course and you must have successfully completed the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing and have achieved functional skills or GCSE grade 4 or above in English and maths.
What facilities are there?
There are several very well equipped hairdressing salons within our Wella Centre of Excellence including our brand new showcase salon. All our students experience our busy commercial environment and gain many assessments on real clients.
What can the course lead on to?
On successful completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship you can progress into a full-time career in the industry. There are many different opportunities for you to work in different sectors such as theatre or television.
Are there any additional costs?
You will need a personal kit and uniform. You are responsible for providing your own working resources. (Approximately £150)
What support can I get?
You will have a dedicated Skills Officer who you can contact at any time. They will visit you in the workplace every 5-6 weeks to carry out a progress review with you and your employer, and complete hairdressing assessments on clients. All assessments are completed via an e-portfolio.
What will this training cost me?
If you are aged between 16 and 18 when you start your Apprenticeship Training Programme, there is no charge to you or your employer as the college will claim the funding for the cost of your programme directly from the Government.
If you are aged 19 or over and studying a Level 2 or Level 3 Apprenticeship, your employer will have to be willing to contribute as the Government will only fund part of the costs of your training – this is currently between £80 - £110 depending on the type of Apprenticeship you wish to complete.
